PMU Consultation Top Tips
As an experienced PMU artist and Lead Educator at Browjam Academy, Emily Bartle-Haigh understands the importance of having a thorough consultation process prior to any treatment.
Here are her top tips:
- Speak to your client as though they’re a friend. It’s important to be professional but you also want to make the client feel comfortable so they can be open about they’re desired look and ask any questions they have. This can help you get a good idea of what they’re looking for and potentially manage any expectations.
- Ask your client lots of questions. To get a clear image of what your client is looking for, don’t be afraid to ask them lots of questions so you can get a better understanding of the look they’re hoping for and whether it’s achievable or realistic.
- Always show clients photos of your work. This gives you and your client a visual that relates to what they want as well as what they don’t want and is an extra way of ensuring you’re both on the same page.
- Always read through the full consultation form. It’s important to provide your client with all the information they need, even the finer details, including risks and what to expect further down the line.
- Don’t be scared to turn a client away. If you find the client has a lot of doubt about wanting to go ahead as the consultation comes to an end, it’s your responsibility to let them know this is okay and they have the option to not move ahead with treatment.

A successful consultation process is key to building trust and ensuring both you and your client are aligned on expectations. By fostering a friendly and open atmosphere, asking the right questions, showing your work, and thoroughly reviewing consultation forms, you set the stage for a positive experience with your PMU brand.
Remember, it’s just as important to be honest and transparent about what is achievable, and if necessary, don’t hesitate to turn a client away if the treatment isn’t the right fit. With these tips, you can confidently guide your clients toward their ideal results while maintaining professionalism and care.
