Killer Beauty Community Event Recap
We can’t believe it’s been nearly a whole month since we hosted our first-ever community event at The Alan Hotel on Saturday, 4th May. Keep on reading to find out all about this incredible, educational day and what you may have missed out on if you didn’t attend! But don’t worry if you have FOMO, there are more events to come soon…
At Killer Beauty, our community of artists is at the centre of everything we do, and we love connecting with our customers as much as possible—so a community event was a no-brainer. Not only did it give us the chance to provide tons of educational value for our artists, but we also tried to identify those key pain points that permanent makeup artists experience and ways in which our expert guests and speakers can help them push past these limitations. It was also an amazing networking opportunity for both experienced and new PMU artists. Despite many of our guests attending solo, they instantly connected with other guests at the event, and we got to see these friendships blossoming right in front of us! Never underestimate the power of surrounding yourself with like-minded professionals who understand you and your business.
We welcomed our guests with refreshments and pastries and gave them a chance to find a seat, put on their gorgeous name tag & lanyard, and have a look through their goody bag at all the incredible full-size and sample products included. We then introduced ourselves as the brand and explained what guests could expect from the day! The beautiful Becci Gibbons kicked us off with a live brow-mapping demo and some insight into hand pressure and movement, to recreate her signature pixels as part of her diamond brow technique. Strong brow mapping skills are the foundation for any successful treatment, and we couldn’t think of anyone better than Becci to teach this!
Tori was up next teaching all things fine-line tattoo and covering the one aspect that most PMU artists are unfamiliar with—creating stencils and stencil application. Tori used her expert knowledge to teach our guests how to use a stencil printer and products to create a neat, long-lasting stencil that will act as the perfect guide for your fine-line or tiny tattoo—using Killer Beauty products, of course.
Jess Abbott and Kerry Welstead, aka The Scalp Sistas, were kind enough to demo their scalp micropigmentation technique, including needle recommendations and theory. Despite its growing popularity, scalp is a treatment often missing from the itinerary of any conference or permanent makeup event, so it was refreshing to offer these unique, sought-after skills to our guests—from the best teachers in the industry.
We then welcomed PMU Business Coach and Mentor Jenna-Leigh to talk our guests through social media and how to utilise these platforms to increase bookings, identify your dream clients, and grow your business. She covered everything from how to advertise your services to optimising your Instagram bio for maximum success. She even included a Q&A session so our guests could ask those burning questions.
Following the lunch break and some delicious food, we welcomed Sophie Dodds to the stage to tell us all about her incredible charity JOY—proudly sponsored by Killer Beauty. Sophie’s own personal experience that encouraged her to launch JOY is such an emotional, touching story, and it was amazing to hear what she does in her monthly clinics. Sophie truly encompassed the power of permanent makeup and the art of giving back in her talk—we’re honoured to have her as part of our community event!
She then went on to teach a practical demo of her signature GlamLiner technique, focusing on perfecting the stretch needed for a successful eyeliner treatment. Sophie identified that this is a huge pain point in eyeliner treatments, and she even distributed her GlamLiner manual to our guests to take away with them for some home study!
Following Sophie, we had a very exciting surprise planned—Natalie Della-Verde gave a fantastic intro and welcomed Molly Scarlett to the stage to talk all things mindset, manifestation, and self-belief. As entrepreneurs and businesswomen, Molly’s inspirational talk was key to homing in on that positive mindset that is going to take our guest’s business to the next level. She even conducted a mini-hypnosis, and the energy in the room was truly electric!
Our guests were then treated to an interactive lip tattoo workshop, hosted by our top-secret (not so secret) special guest—none other than Gabrielle Rock. Gabrielle shared all her top tips and tricks for working on difficult, over-filled lips and migrating filler, teaching our guests how to tackle those tricky lip shapes to create a beautiful result against all odds. Our guests had a go themselves at lip blush pre-draw, and Gabrielle selected her favourite entries, giving out prizes to the best pre-draw—including free access to her Online Cleft Lip Course.
We rounded off this amazing day by thanking our guests for stepping out of their comfort zone and investing in themselves and their business, by showing up at the Community Event and being open to learning and networking. We also thanked our incredible guest speakers and demo artists, who we are so proud to work with—their loyalty, support, and love for our brand blow us away every single time, and we owe them so much!
One final surprise was a farewell for our Social Media Exec Nicole, who was working our event as her last day before heading off to travel the world. We asked her colleagues to film some video clips wishing her well, which we projected onto the screen—including a surprise celebrity shout-out. Our love and appreciation for Nicole really shone through, and so many of our guests shared their well-wishes with her, which was so moving to see.
We enjoyed a glass of fizz and some final networking & mingling to finish this portion of the day!
After a jam-packed day, it was time to let our hair down and celebrate our wonderful industry. After a short break, we began our VIP dinner in The Alan restaurant—which had been decorated beautifully, with individual place cards for our VIPs and a custom PMU-themed cocktail menu. Guests could order a Killer Berry Spritz, Passion Fruit Pigmentini, or Your Brows But Better, and trust us, these cocktails were stunning!
Our VIPs enjoyed a 3-course meal and had the chance to get to know each other in a more relaxed setting, to build those long-lasting connections. Artists in the earlier stages of their career got to network with industry-famous individuals and pick their brains about all things PMU—what an incredible opportunity for anyone in the PMU world!
It is safe to say, this was a day to remember, and we were absolutely overwhelmed with the response! We really hope to announce our next Community Event ASAP, but you can register your interest here to be the first to know when tickets go on sale.
We hope to see you there!
