If you’re looking for the closest possible experience to working on a real, live model then MicroPads are the practice skins you need to try. Whether you’re a beginner or trying out some new skills, there’s no better way to practise than with realistic synthetic skin!

Work on latex and synthetic skin is the building blocks for anyone starting their permanent makeup career but it is also crucial for developing and strengthening your skills as a working, established artist.

Why Practise on Synthetic Skin?

When your job involves mostly working on people’s heads and faces, the stakes are seriously high. But then how do you build up the important skills and confidence that can only be learned through practice?

Once upon a time, we would have developed those skills by using fruit - this is a classic tattoo and PMU trick, as the skin of fruits like bananas and oranges are very roughly similar to human skin.  Nowadays though, fruits really can’t measure up to the rigorously tested, non-spoiling realism of synthetic skin in all its glory.

Different Skin Tones

The other benefit of not using fruit? Getting accurate experience with how important colour theory is when working on different skin tones.

No matter where in the world you work, you’re bound to experience a variety of skin tones sooner rather than later - and wouldn’t you rather be able to work your magic on absolutely anyone who came through your door?

While you’re warming up to working on real clients, practising on a variety of Fitzpatrick tones of synthetic skin will help you to understand the important differences between them. You will better understand how the pigment will appear once implanted in the skin and learn what modifiers, toners or correctors you may need to reach for.

Skin Simulation Set

The Skin Simulation Set from MicroPads is a great way to try out different skin tones for PMU or micropigmentation treatments. But these are no ordinary sheets of synthetic skin - the round sheets in this set have variable thickness throughout, both hyper realistic and smooth sides, and a lifelike resistance to the needle.

The grade 70 shore silicone gets as close to real skin as possible and is coated with a specially formulated layer to enable effortless removal of excess pigment and markings so that you’re left with just the clear results of your work.

Head Simulation Set

No area of the body is truly flat, which is why it’s important to test your skills on a more realistic canvas. When working on the face, you’re dealing with a tricky surface and getting practice in of how to tattoo on the contours of the face is key to becoming a successful artist.

In the Head Simulation Set you’ll receive a hard shell in the shape of a human head, plus four silicone skins with faces. These gender-neutral faces come in the same four skin tones as the Skins Set, and with the same special coating that enables you to wipe away marks and excess pigment.  They have different levels of thickness in different areas, with texture and hardness to replicate real skin, and are the right shape and have ample room to practise most PMU treatments, including scalp micropigmentation.

Also included in the Head Simulation Kit is a piece of anti-slip trimming which sits around the edge of the shell to make holding the piece comfortable and secure. These lightweight head shells and skins can be taken everywhere for training courses or PMU practice on the go.

If you’re serious about elevating your PMU or SPMU skills, there’s no better way than to work on realistic synthetic skin with a variety of skin tones! MicroPads give you the most realistic experience without actually working on clients and are the perfect tool for beginners looking to build up their confidence before they embark on their first live models.
