In recent years, the use of a rotary machine and a needle cartridge in permanent makeup procedures has soared. Many beginners previously bypassed microblading and trained in machine brows¸ but in 2024 we are seeing a shift in the industry, and we feel that there is a revival of microblading in recent months.

In this blog we are going to take a deep dive into why we think this treatment has been gaining more and more popularity in our industry – just in case you want to jump on this trend!

Microblading vs. Machine

This is an age-old debate within the PMU space, and we even have a whole blog on this topic here. Which method you choose will come down to your personal preference as a PMU artist and what your niche is. What brow style or styles are you aiming to create? Who are your clients? What method suits your skill and technique best? Which produces the best results, in your experience?

There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ method to use as a PMU artist and at Killer Beauty, we are all about providing our customers with as much choice as possible - to suit every preference. That is why we stock a huge range of microblading products, to cater for those who do offer this method and need the best-quality products for their treatments and their clients.

Why is microblading gaining popularity?

Last year we saw a lot of conversation around inorganic formulations in the pigment world, not just for quicker fading but for clients who are seeking a soft, natural healed result. Many clients that walk through your clinic doors now will want something a bit more understated – which they can enhance with make-up as and when they want a bolder look.

Microblading artists would argue that this technique produces the most realistic and undetectable result possible – which is ideal for clients seeking that natural enhancement. The ultra-fine hairs created in microblading blend seamlessly in with the natural brow hairs and can enhance the client’s natural brow without going overboard.

Many artists just prefer microbladed hair strokes over machine and feel that they can achieve the most crisp, sharp healed hair strokes on their clients with microblading. Beautiful hair strokes can also be created with a machine and needle cartridge, but the artists who love microblading truly LOVE this technique. As always, judging it on a case by case and assessing the client’s skin type will play a key role in deciding which method to use.

Some of our Sponsored Artists produce insane results using microblading technique – including Gabrielle Rock, Ashley Roberts from The Brow Wizard and Ash Aquilina. The work on their social media channels speaks for itself – just wow.

Brands are taking notice…

This year we have seen the launch of the incredible Microblading Pro Set from Perma Blend LUXE – 6 REACH compliant microblading inks designed specifically for this technique, including a warm modifier for a neutral, natural heal. This set even provides FREE access to the LUXE Microblading Perma U online course – worth $99!

Best-selling needle manufacturers Vertix have introduced their own range of microblades and we also stock an extensive range of products from Tina Davies, Biotek, Artyst, KB Pro and Jenn Boyd, all specifically for microblading. There are also some new and exciting microblading launches coming soon from some of the biggest brands in the industry – we cannot wait to share more details with you!

Our own Killer Beauty range of microblades are hugely popular, with the 18U blade being Gabrielle Rock’s go-to tool for creating her award-winning and world-famous fluffy hair strokes. Ashley Roberts from the Brow Wizard also used our blades recently and absolutely loves them – the feedback has been incredible from everyone who has tried them.

As excited as we are about the revival of this technique, this has always been a staple in any client’s vocabulary – who tend to ask for ‘microblading’ even when all your social media and website states you only offer machine methods! Microblading is known worldwide and is a highly trusted method when it comes to your clients. This means that booking someone in for microblading can go a lot smoother than trying to explain machine method to a client who isn’t as educated on the variety of PMU treatments – and they could even take some convincing.

If you don’t offer microblading in your treatments, now could be the time to research training and consider expanding your services – to open your books to even more potential clients and get your diary full. If this is what potential clients are looking for, you may be losing business if you don’t offer this treatment.
